How long do the batterys of an EV last or have to be replaced ?

Post by mohammedk84 »

I know they use Li-ion batteries in evs but Im curious how long do the batterys last ? Cos they dont last very long on my Andorid phone (about 4 years) so how good is the battery tech on electric cars?

The battery tech inside an electric car is better than what you have in a cellphone. They have better cells and they run much cooler.

Most electric cars seem to degrade at 100k miles by around 10% (with the exception of Nissans which are worse).

Mobile Phone companys dont design the batterys to last, its not in their interest whereas in an EVs they are a critical component (and a major selling point). They cap the maximum charge and load cycling on individual cells plus they manage the heat of the battery. Current EV batteries will last 500k miles easily.

Different batteries ! The Lion in Car batteries prioritizes long life and high charge cycle counts. Phones typically prioritise fast charge rates and high capacity :ugeek:
